  • A reminder that NewYorkIslanders.com has daily updates, player profiles, and photo galleries from camp. Coverage of days four and five have been posted.

With training camp half over, the talk has turned to the first team cuts: “The decisions are not set in stone yet,” said coach Ted Nolan. “We’ll make major cuts when we get back from the game in Halifax on Saturday. It’s after that game we’ll really start working with the team.”

The buzz around the camp continues to be Jeff Tambellini and Nolan weighed in on the young prospect: “(Jeff) Tambellini came into camp as one of the most top conditioned guys. He obviously paid a lot of attention to details this summer. And he’s played the last couple of days pretty well, so he’s doing well for himself. We’ll see how the exhibition games go and take it from there.”

  • Joe Grimaldi dropped the gloves for a 3rd straight day, this time with Aaron Asham who got the better of him.
  • The NY Post’s Evan Grossman checks up on the revamped Islanders blueliners.

“I don’t think people are going to be whacking at pucks with Witter standing around the net,” DiPietro said of the human wrecking machine that’s marked camp with some thunderous hits already.

  • Happy belated 25th birthday to the $67.5 million dollar man, Rick DiPietro.

Rick DiPietro turned 25 today and following the game was pied in the face by his teammates before being congratulated.

  • The Islanders pre-season schedule kicks off this weekend with 2 games Friday and Saturday vs. the Boston Bruins.
  • Finally in NHL news, Tie Domi announced his retirement. Good riddance. LCS Hockey has a few unkind words for Tie on his way out.
