Isles Face Senator Team Struggling For Home Win

December 27th, 2006 by Tom

One night after taking it to the Rangers at the Coliseum, the Islanders will skate in Ottawa against the Senators. David Naylor of the Toronto Globe & Mail reports the Senators haven’t won a home game since Dec. 2 and have lost more home games this year than they did all of last season. Ottawa is 18-18-1. The OrangeAndBlue are 19-13-3.

Few would have imagined at the start of this season that Ottawa would be looking up at the New York Islanders for this game. And yet the Islanders come into this game four points ahead of Ottawa in the Eastern Conference standings, having won four of five.

Goaltender Rick Dipietro has three shutouts over that span, looking every bit like the goaltender that New York owner Charles Wang imagined when he signed him to a 15-year contract last summer.
