Martinek Breaks Left Leg, Out 4-6 Weeks

Ouch! I’ve been gone snowboarding all weekend. I came back to this bad news.
New York Islanders defenseman Radek Martinek broke his left leg and will be out four-to-six weeks, the team said Sunday.
Martinek, who recently returned from a broken foot that sidelined him for nine games, was injured again Saturday in the Islanders’ 4-2 victory at Montreal. The fifth-year player came off the ice on a stretcher in the first period after he was checked into the boards behind the Islanders net by Canadiens left wing Guillaume Latendresse.
Martinek landed awkwardly on his left ankle when he bounced off the boards after absorbing the seemingly harmless check. He was sitting up as he was taken off the ice on a stretcher.
The Islanders recalled defenseman Drew Fata from Bridgeport of the AHL and had him in the lineup Sunday during a 2-1 shootout loss to the Washington Capitals.
