See that blank space above? That’s supposed to be the Isles/Pens highlights via the official NHL Videos on YouTube. In a stoke of pure marketing stupidity, the NHL has decided to stop allowing blogs and other sites to embed their highlights. From the Are You Watching This Blog:

Hey folks, I just got off the phone with someone at the NHL. Looks like the NHL wants you to see video recaps, but they don’t want anyone to spread the word. I’m not sure exactly when they flipped the switch, but as of right now the NHL is no longer letting anyone embed any of their YouTube videos on any other site.

Or have they? I read the news on Off Wing Opinion and RUWT? Blog and started to draft this post. To prove my point, I went along as normal and embedded the video URL in Wordpress up above…but when I previewed my post, I noticed it still worked. ???. So who knows what is up. I’m sure we’ll find out more in the next day or two. On the YouTube video pages, next to the embed code it says “embedding disabled by request” but apparently I can still embed the video in the Wordpress blogging system by just using the video ID code (like I normally do).

So enjoy the Isles/Pens highlights…while you still can. The “New NHL”: One step forward, three steps back.

[Update] Call off the attack dogs. Someone at You Tube flipped the wrong switch, all is OK. NewTeeVee has the scoop.

NHL tells us: “We’re trying to determine why this happened…it wasn’t at our request. We have a call into YouTube and should be able to tell you more later today.” Also several of the NHL videos on YouTube that we linked to have had their embed tags reinstated.
