SCREWJOB!!

March 8th, 2007 by Tom

I’m pretty steamed. Isles seemingly tie the game with 20.4 seconds left and the refs CALL IT OFF! Saying it never crossed the goaline. Granted, it was a real close call. Lundqvist knocked the puck out when it was right near the line. Replays showed (to me) that the puck crossed the line. The refs spent about five minutes reviewing it. The Coliseum crowd was cheering as it watched the replays. All for naught. NO GOAL. Rangers win 2-1.

The Rangers scored the go-ahead goal compliments of a five-minute major power play with just six minutes to go. Chris Simon got thrown out when he took his stick and wacked Holweg in the face in retaliation for a cross-check seconds earlier. It was a dirty play and definitely deserved to be called. So, the Garden Boys took the lead with about four minutes to go and were still on the power play,

This loss sucks ass. It’s never good when it comes down to a video replay in the booth. Isles got ripped off. Tough loss to take.

The NHL will make more money with the Rangers in the playoffs.Canada will make more money with the Rangers in the playoffs. I always keep this in mind when I see a rotten call .Its not that I think they rip off the Islanders . They gave a gift to the Rangers .

No offense, but whether or not your a Ranger fan or an Islanders fan I find it amazing how one sided your post is about last nights game.

For 6 minutes the goal was reviewed by the officiating crew in Toronto. I watched the game, I thought it could be a goal but the only angle that gives the Isle fans the best chance at arguing is the one that shows the puck flopping around, not flat with no depth perception to declare it a goal or not. If the league reviews it for that long and does not have the power to overturn the call then it is a goal. These are the type of plays we have to live with. (I am a Ranger fan….and I thought it WAS A GOAL)

What kills me is the hit on Hollweg. The hit on Simon was legal, not a case of boarding or cross checking. If you watch the replay, Hollweg’s arms were in and his stick was limp wristed, it was just a solid hit. Simon half jumped up and that is why the check hurt, but to turn around, use both hands and fully whack a guy in the face is completely unacceptable. Not only did Simon cost the Islanders the game but the league is going to fry him which will cost the Islanders more than just these 2 points.

Sad night for hockey, I love the game, love the hard hitting and fights but this kind of goonish play does nothing for the game.

    Cheers

    Fair points, Bernard.
And I agree, we’re not going to see Simon for a long time.

And maybe that’s a good thing. I’ve wanted him waved for a long time, now maybe we’ll see it done.
