Mike Bossy was elected to Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame on Tuesday. The Montreal native was selected along with Doug Flutie, the first American to be inducted into the Hall, female hockey player Cassie Campbell, Olympic wrestler Daniel Igali, cross-country skiing Olympian Beckie Scott and retired baseball player Larry Walker.

The Sports Hall of Fame now has 489 members, according to Canada.com.

In his decade-long career with the New York Islanders, Bossy established at nine the NHL record for most consecutive seasons of 50 or more goals, and became one of the only players ever to have scored 60 or more goals five times. Bossy was the NHL’s rookie of the year and won three Lady Byng Trophies before having his sweater retired by the Islanders.

The Hall was established in Toronto in 1955 to recognize the achievements of Canadian-born athletes. Flutie won six Most Outstanding Player awards while playing in the Canadian Football Leaue and last year was named the greatest CFL player ever. Flutie also enjoyed a long National Football League career.

    1) Congreats to Boss! Without peer, the best goal scorer we have ever seen play the game. He also was arguably, and with respect to his line mate Trotts, the best/most talented player ever to wear an islander sweater!
