Goring & Cairns to be at NHL Store Opening on Friday

October 11th, 2007 by murph

I’ve been keeping quiet about the NHL Store Grand Opening on Friday because I was planning on going tomorrow during lunch to take some pictures but didn’t want to give the surprise away. The NHL has released the list of NHL alumni who will be in attendance signing autographs tomorrow though and with two ex-Islanders on the list, I figured I needed to share it with you.

The following is the schedule of NHL alumni who will be signing autographs at the NHL store Friday:

11:15 a.m. – 12 p.m. ET: Glenn Anderson & Rick Middleton
12:15 – 1 p.m.: Ken Daneyko & Bruce Driver
1:15 – 2 p.m.: Butch Goring & Eric Cairns

The Grand Opening is scheduled for 11am until 2pm tomorrow. The store is located at 1185 Avenue of the Americas in NYC, at the corner of 47th Street. Below is a list of store features and tomorrow’s festivities and some store photos are here.

  • Features the newest in NHL and Rbk apparel and footwear for all 30 teams.
  • XM Satellite Radio has built an on-air studio for live broadcasts on the hockey talk radio station NHL Home Ice (XM channel 204), which is heard across the U.S. and Canada. XM is the exclusive satellite radio network of the NHL
  • Larger than life graphics that highlight NHL players
  • Interactive stations where consumers can play next generation NHL video games or access NHL.com
  • An integrated Starbucks within the store that provides the Starbucks experience while also invoking the love of the game through custom finishes and furniture, and a one-of-a-kind hockey mural.
  • An ice wall, made of real ice, which serves as a backdrop to feature merchandise as well as the Stanley Cup at select times throughout the year
  • A floating Rbk hockey stick sculpture, constructed of over 400 sticks, which will hang over the cash desk and is interlaced with flat panel monitors
  • High definition projection screens and monitors throughout the store that captures clips or display real-time in-game video
  • A 29 ft tall LED video veil at the main entrance features 80 strips of light and greets consumers with highlighted product or images of Reebok’s most exciting NHL players
  • LED Zippers that run across the exterior bringing movement and light to the street

[Update] The store is open, I was over there at lunch with only my crappy cameraphone, so I didn’t even bother taking pictures. Damn. The store was mostly empty and it would have been a good opportunity. I’m sure tomorrow it will be mobbed. They had a truck outside handing out free Popsicles to people on the street, they are also handing out keys for tomorrow’s giveaway contests.

The store is pretty cool, although I thought the “Ice Wall” would be more impressive. It’s not, it’s small and hidden behind the Reebok skates. More tomorrow, including pics!
