Stop the Presses! Islanders Coverage on ESPN.com
November 7th, 2007 by murph
Hackers have apparently broken into the ESPN.com publishing system and slipped an interview with Mike Comrie onto the “Worldwide Leader in Sports (except hockey)” website.
Click through for the full interview, there are a bunch more questions including the now standard Hilary Duff related ones.
Q: Why did you choose the Islanders, a team that just lost its top offensive players in Ryan Smyth, Alexei Yashin and Jason Blake?
A: I spoke with [coach] Ted Nolan and [GM] Garth Snow, and, at the time, they were both very adamant that they wanted me to be one of the go-to guys on the team. As a player, to have that, to hear that from management, it’s exciting. Once I made my decision that I wanted to be part of the Islanders, I spoke to Ted again and it was refreshing that he made me feel special. He told me he wants me to play a lot of minutes and play in key situations and win hockey games.
Q: Why did you sign only a one-year deal?
A: I wanted to see how I fit in on the top line and to see if I enjoyed playing in the New York area. It’s better to see that it works for me and works for them, then we can move forward.
Q: So, how has it been so far?A: I like it here. We have a great group of guys. We have to win games by everyone chipping in. We don’t have a $10 million player on this team. Everyone has to come and play hard every night.

1) We wonder if ESPN even would care about Comrie if he wasn’t involved with Floozie McGuire.
2) Guess you’ll really find out how much he likes it there when it comes time to negotiate a new contract.

Apparently, Comrie’s slick set up of Fedotenko last night even made it on ESPN’s “Top 3 Plays.” I didn’t see them (ESPN) play it, but I bet they prefaced it with “Hillary Duff’s man doesn’t play football or baseball, but…” then announced the goal with “Boo-ya! in the basket, mama wants a cookie” or something equally clever.

I liked the Comrie signing this off-season but was a little disappointed that it was only a 1-year deal. He’s a young player with some serious talent. I’d like to see Snow/Wang lock him up for a few more seasons. I can understand Comrie’s hesitation though. Hopefully a successful Isles season will convince him to stick around a while.
