All-Star DP Getting Press for Saves Now, Not Contract

DP! DP! DP! Where would be be without him? Probably in the Eastern Conference basement making tee-time reservations for early April. I give Coach Nolan a lot of credit too for the team’s overall performance, but DP is the team’s first-half MVP for sure. Brian Compton over at NHL.com thinks DP deserves some consideration as a Hart Trophy candidate if he can keep up this level of play over the second half of the season.
I’d Vote For Ricky In A Hart-Beat — “The Hart Memorial Trophy is an annual award given to the player judged to be the most valuable to his team.”
What I’m about to say is probably going to cause my Inbox to explode, but the following topic is worth discussing: Is Rick DiPietro a Hart Trophy Candidate?
Remember … it’s the Most “Valuable” Player. Sure, there are better players in the League (heck, there are even better goaltenders). But with Wednesday night’s win, the New York Islanders – who currently do not possess a 40-point player on their roster – are four points behind the Devils and Pittsburgh Penguins for the Atlantic Division lead. For those of you scoring at home, that’s currently the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.
DP for Hart, Nolan for Jack Adams…could be a very Orange and Blue NHL Awards show this off-season.

I’d place the odds on DP winning the Hart at around 20 to 1. That gives him a fighter’s chance but not much more than that. That’s all well and good as I’d rather see him get the Conn Smythe anyway.
GO ISLES!

1) Being that the Isles get VERY little to NO respect around the league, Ricky would be lucky to be even nominated for the award. (See last years Nolan snub for the Adams)

I really need someone’s help with this. I have been an Islanders fan for many years and, like all of you, I have seen the good, bad and otherwise. One thing I can’t understand, however, is how anyone can think that Ricky is better than average. He goes outside the net far too much and has been scored on for doing so far too many times. He has his “passes” intercepted a fair number of times and is the league leader in penalty minutes for goalies. He is in the bottom half of the league in GAA and Save% and even his own teammates say that he needs another airplane seat because of his ego. Now, I have heard many people say that he has bailed the team out and I agree. He has some sensational games. That being said, because he has been out of position I have also seen his defensemen bail him out and keep pucks from the net and I have also seen him out of the net when other teams score. Please don’t misunderstand me, I am not saying he is terrible. What I am saying is that I don’t see this “Hart Contender” that everyone is talking about. I am a true Islanders fan and would like to hear another opinion because I feel that I am missing something, but I don’t know what it is.
