A Picture is Worth 1000 Words…

…so consider the following SI.com photo gallery link 27,000 words about how the Islanders became synonymous with “suck”, “circus”, and “farce”. Thanks to an old co-worker/Toronto fan for the link. No really, you shouldn’t have. Great to hear from you too…how’s that Jason Blake signing working out?

Watch the Isles go from this proud moment - Stanley Cup Champions, top of the world…

To this confused mess, throwing money into a seemingly bottomless pit…

All your favorite Islander low-lites are accounted for…Ron Hextall, Fishsticks, John Spano, Alexei Yashin, Dale Hunter, Dave Chyzowski, Brett Lindros, Don Maloney, Kirk Muller, Mad Mike Milbury, Neil Smith, Cryin’ Ryan Smyth, and the aging Nassau Coliseum. Normally I’m not big on Vanilla Ice quotes, but “Will it ever stop? Yo, I don’t know!” is just too fitting for this franchise.

    1) We don’t read SI, especially when it comes to hockey. As an islander fan you guys don’t need reminding of what your team has become the last 15 years.
    2) These kinds of articles only remind the folks who were lucky enough to see the Isles in the late 70’s/early 80’s how far they have fallen. We feel sorry for fans who’s best Isles memory is the Turgeon years(Volek, etc) or worse yet those who are even younger who have never even seen their team win a playoff series.
    3) Fans who were around from the beginning probably couldn’t relate to that, as it was assumed the team would make the playoffs and win back then. Sadly we don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel yet. Unless that’s a LIRR express to Jamaica? ; )

Forget about that SI article. The captions don’t relate the entirety of the stories they purport to tell. For example, the Spano incident was not just an Islander folly, but a folly for entire league since Spano successfully fooled everyone. As an Islander fan, I don’t think we need to read garbage like this. Let the know-nothings sling their mud. Go back to covering the Patriots and World Championship Poker, Sports Illustrated. Bah to them.

I’m shocked that they included Brett Lindros in the Islanders’ Follies. I was always told that we had gotten the better Lindros.

Seriously, even though that was supposed to poke fun at our franchise, it was a depressing read. I guess this is the reward for four straight Cups… figures that I was one year old when they won their fourth Cup. If you take away the Easter Epic, 1993, and Bates’ penalty shot, what you have is SI’s photo montage. That’s my life as an Islander fan… and yet, I’m still loyal. Go figure.

What is this “SI” you speak of? As a hockey fan, it seems foreign to me… (he he he he) Just more media button pushing to a loyal fan base.
