The Boss Hits The Red Carpet

September 5th, 2008 by murph

Actor Kevin Connolly, famous life-long Islander fan, frequently seen at the Coliseum, opted to bring a very special guest to the premier of Entourage earlier this week. Instead of some ditzy Hollywood eye-candy, Kevin brought The Boss with him.

Mike Bossy, the star from the New York Islanders championship dynasty, was an elusive but much-sought-after figure Wednesday night.

Doug Ellin, the creator and executive producer of the show, and Kevin Connolly, who stars on the show, are Long Island natives and life-long Islanders fans.

“Mike Bossy is rolling around here,” said an excited Ellin. “For a diehard guy who went to 25, 30 games a year, I’m very excited to meet him.”

“E” (Connolly’s character on the show) has already been spoted with Islanders hats and T-shirts in previous Entourage seasons. Wonder what Isles’ gear he’ll be rockin’ this season?

Bababooey and The Boss

December 4th, 2007 by murph

From IslandersTV comes this radio clip of Gary “Bababooey” Dell’Abate from The Howard Stern Show. Before Gary was Bababooey, he was a 19-year old intern for WLIR on Long Island and was sent over to the coliseum to get some hockey interviews. He interviewed The Boss shortly after “one of the Islanders 4 Stanley Cups”. From Gary’s interview question, “It seems like it was easier this year than last year, what was different?”, I’m guessing it was 1980-81.

Stop the Presses! Islanders Coverage on ESPN.com

November 7th, 2007 by murph

Hackers have apparently broken into the ESPN.com publishing system and slipped an interview with Mike Comrie onto the “Worldwide Leader in Sports (except hockey)” website.

Click through for the full interview, there are a bunch more questions including the now standard Hilary Duff related ones.

Q: Why did you choose the Islanders, a team that just lost its top offensive players in Ryan Smyth, Alexei Yashin and Jason Blake?

A: I spoke with [coach] Ted Nolan and [GM] Garth Snow, and, at the time, they were both very adamant that they wanted me to be one of the go-to guys on the team. As a player, to have that, to hear that from management, it’s exciting. Once I made my decision that I wanted to be part of the Islanders, I spoke to Ted again and it was refreshing that he made me feel special. He told me he wants me to play a lot of minutes and play in key situations and win hockey games.

Q: Why did you sign only a one-year deal?

A: I wanted to see how I fit in on the top line and to see if I enjoyed playing in the New York area. It’s better to see that it works for me and works for them, then we can move forward.

Q: So, how has it been so far?

A: I like it here. We have a great group of guys. We have to win games by everyone chipping in. We don’t have a $10 million player on this team. Everyone has to come and play hard every night.
