Here’s a great way to spend your morning while waiting for today’s Islanders afternoon game (unless you’re still working today like me). Via UniWatch Blog comes OfficialGamePuck.com’s Virtual Puck Museum with just under 20,000 puck photos for you to browse. That’s even more pucks than the back of the Islanders net in the third period!
Classics like the Bossy and LaFontaine pucks above. Pucks from just about every hockey league NHL, AHL, College Hockey, even Beer League pucks. Corporate pucks, old pucks, wedding pucks, even ^%$ glow pucks.
Here are a few more Islander pucks; Blake, King, and Peca. You might want to cover your eyes for this last one John Tonelli…as a King…nooooo!
Hockey Blogosphere Celebrity James Mirtle has a new home, over at From The Rink where he will be the Manager of NHL blogs. New home, same Mirtle, same great content.
Mirtle put up the average age of all 30 NHL teams. For all the talk about the Isles’ youth movement, when you factor in the veterans like Guerin and Weight, the Isles’ are actually just about average, coming in at #14 at 28.18 years old.

Ex-Isle Eric Goddard finds himself in Pittsburgh this season in case anyone gets a little too close to Sid the Kid. Last night he threw down with Riley Cote of the Philadelphia Flyers in an furious, entertaining fight via HockeyFights.com.
What’s with the helmets boys? You guys new to this fighting thing? Goddard played for the Flames last year, I would think he would have picked up a thing or two from Jarome Iginla. Iggy and Willie Mitchell showed everyone how it’s done a couple of days ago.
Speaking of former Islanders, I often joke about the “Ex-Islanders All-Star Team” around the league. Bertuzzi, Luongo, Bertuzzi, Redden, Chara…the list goes on and on. Which is why I am so pissed that I did not think of the following idea first – the Former Islander Watch blog. Great site, daily updates on former Isles around the league, a list of the top former Isles on each team (DYK? Only CAR, DAL, and NASH don’t have former Isles on their roster). The blog’s been around since last year – no idea why it took so long for me to find out about it. Check it out…try not to cry too much. Just remember, Mad Mike is gone.
Over at ESPN.com E.J. Hradek has gone through every franchise, choosing the best forward, defenseman, and goalie to don each team’s sweater.
Best forward: Bryan Trottier. It comes down to Hall of Famers Trottier and Mike Bossy. As a center, Trottier’s game was more complete.
Best defenseman: Denis Potvin. He was dynamic at both ends of the rink.
Best goaltender: Billy Smith. Battlin’ Billy loved the big games. And he loved chopping forwards with his Koho.
Kudos to The 2 Man Advantage for digging up Coach Gordon’s old AHL hockey card.
Friday night, the Yanks don’t play until 10p, so how about the Islanders Army “Bag of Pucks” link dump makes an appearance this summer?
I’ve been invited by Michael Dell over at LCS Hockey to join them this evening on their radio show. Originally I was going to be on around 9pm but then I got bumped to 9:30pm because their special guest this evening…Theo Fleury. I’d make a snarky comment about some big shoes to fill, but then Theo would probably just kick my ass…over the phone.
Catch the show tonight from 9-10pm (EDT) at BlogTalkRadio.com. We’ll be discussing the Islanders coaching carousel and other off-season shenanigans.
Haven’t heard any updates on DP’s hip, but his mask continues on in the Tournament of Logos Blog Best Goalie Mask Brackets. After narrowly defeating the Av’s Peter Budaj by just 20 votes, DP faces Tim Thomas of the Bruins and his mask. It’s another nail biter and voting ends on Sunday.
Speaking of polls, the HockeyFights.com 2007-08 Awards are now open for voting as well. Where else can you vote for “Fight of the Year“, “TKO/KO of the Year“, “Best Team Feud“, or “Best Punching Power“? All those official NHL Awards are for sissies!
The Isles are not very well represented here, in fact they’ve been nominated for “Least Enforcing Team“. But you will find the NYI/NYR Pre-season brawl, and Simon stomping on Rutuu in the “Most Old-School Moment” category. You can browse the categories and videos, but you’ll need a HockeyFights.com forum username and password to vote.
DP’s mask has advanced to round three of the NHL Tournament of Logos blog best goalie mask poll. If he wins this round and he’ll be in the final four.
The polls opened up on Tuesday, so I’m a little late posting this…but DP needs you more than ever. It’s a barnburner – as of this morning, Budaj has a 19 vote lead. Poll closes tomorrow. Vote here.
