Notes From Camp
September 18th, 2006 by murph

Mmmm, I love the smell of vulcanized rubber in the morning. Isles camp is OPEN and there are lots of new reports out there.
- How about them new practice jerseys? They are simple and kind of sharp looking.
- You can’t keep score if you don’t know the players. Here is the Official Islanders Training Camp Guide.
- The Official Team Website has daily recaps and photo galleries 1, 2, 3. It looks like they are going to update the site daily, you can find a summary of all the training camp coverage here.
- Newsday.com has a story about Ted Nolan’s first practice jitters and Jeff Tambellini’s first days at camp. I also just noticed this development camp video they have from back in July.
- TSN.ca has posted their NHL Preview. On the Isles:
The turnovers in the Islanders front office were certainly soap opera material, but new general manager Garth Snow and head coach Ted Nolan have more pressing issues to deal with - like getting the team back into the postseason.
- The NY Post has articles about Nolan’s view from the stands at the first day of camp and Robert Nilsson’s less than stellar start to camp.
- News 12 is running interviews and clips of training camp during the sports section of the show.
- IslandersArmy.com was unaware the entire training camp is being held in Canada. We were hoping to file our own report from Iceworks. Guess there were too many birthday parties scheduled the next 2 weeks to hold it there. We plan on checking out one of the Isles first practices once camp breaks.
- Finally, keeping with today’s “fighting” theme…Jason Blake got into it with camp invitee Joe Grimaldi (from Ronkonkoma). Nolan says he has a no-fighting policy in camp but apparently he trusts Blake enough to let him drop the gloves and deliver some knuckles when necessary. Yeah Blakey!
